Conviction upheld for 2008 murder of pregnant woman

OLYMPIA, Wash. - The state Supreme Court has upheld the conviction of a 2008 murder of a Pasco woman.

Phiengchai Sisouvanh, from Kennewick, will spend the rest of her life in prison after killing 27-year-old Araceli Camacho Gomez and cutting her baby out of her womb.

Sisouvanh says her Laotian culture was not taken into consideration during a court-appointed evaluation. Her lawyers argued that her competency evaluation wasn't done by a "qualified expert."

The baby survived and is being raised by his father in Pasco.
