**Press Release From Spokane Chiefs**
SPOKANE, Wash. - Adam Helewka scored midway through the third to give the Chiefs a lead and Spokane held on late in a 2-1 victory over Seattle in front of 4,813 fans at the Spokane Arena. Helewka finished with two goals and Eric Williams stopped 14 of 15 shots as Spokane improved to 5-0-0-0 at home and 7-3-0-0 overall.
The Thunderbirds jumped out to an early lead as Branden Troock collected a rebound and fired a shot past Williams at 6:24 of the first. Spokane went on the power play a minute later but failed to record a shot as Seattle's penalty kill held strong.
Mike Aviani nearly tied things up at the 12:20 mark but his backhand ricocheted off the left post. Thunderbirds goalie Justin Myles turned away Liam Stewart's point blank shot 18:00 into the first to preserve Seattle's 1-0 lead. The Chiefs outshot the Thunderbirds 10-6 in the period.
Defense was the name of the game in the second period as both goaltenders controlled the crease. The Chiefs went on the power play at 10:26 but couldn't beat Seattle's Myles.
Spokane scored the only goal of the second at 17:37 as Helewka walked through the right circle and found the back of the net off assists from Riley Whittingham and Connor Chartier. The Chiefs continued to dominate shot attempts in the period, piling up 11 against only four from the T-Birds.
The third period saw both teams trade shots before Helewka scored his second of the night at 9:17. Cole Wedman and Mitch Holmberg had the assists. Helewka's goal proved to be the last score of the night as both Williams and Myles held serve in net for the remainder of the game.
Spokane finished 0-2 on the power play and 2-3 on the penalty kill. Seattle's Myles was 34 for 36 on save opportunities.
The Chiefs are home again tomorrow night for a 7:05 PM game against the Prince George Cougars before traveling to Prince George for back-to-back games on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Tickets for all home games are available by calling the Chiefs office at (509) 535-PUCK or TicketsWest at (800) 325-SEAT.
