Sunnyside, WASH.--A big break in a five-year old murder case in Sunnyside.
A man from Grandview quickly became the primary suspect when a Sunnyside woman was murdered in 2007, but it's taken detectives several years to track him down.
30-year old Eric Flores was charged with the murder of 26-year old Veronica Ayala in late July of 2007.
Ayala was shot in the head, and died the same day from her injuries at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Within days of her murder, Flores fled the country.
Police said he had family in Mexico and was most likely headed there.
During the past two years, Sunnyside Police Detectives and U.S. Marshals received enough information to pinpoint Flores' exact whereabouts.
He was arrested last week in Cuernavaca Mexico.
"If there's a criminal street gang member that commits a violent crime in Sunnyside then we know that they'll run, and we'll know that they'll hide," said Sgt. John Chumley of the Sunnyside Police Department. "But we also want them to know that they should not rest."
Police are currently working on extraditing Flores back to the states. They said they don't know how long that will take.
Once Flores is back in Yakima County, he'll be tried for second degree murder and first degree unlawful possession of a firearm.
