Ellensburg, WASH.--Ellensburg Police added another report to their growing list of stolen vehicles Monday night, but soon after, the thief was caught red-handed.
A patrol officer noticed suspicious activity in a quiet neighborhood around 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.
Police said they found 31-year old Nicholas Compton sitting inside a recently stolen Honda.
Compton also had other property and documents that connected him to more car thefts in the area.
"We're going to investigate this to make sure that we're confident that the person we have is either responsible for all of these, which is probably not very likely," said Captain Dan Hansberry of the Ellensburg Police Department. "But we're going to at least then try to identify who his associates are."
This arrest comes after a significant spike in stolen vehicle reports.
Police said Compton has been booked into the Kittitas County Corrections Center for possession of a stolen vehicle and other stolen property.
