KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Our SWX game of the week takes us to a battle of two heavy-weights, the Kennewick Lions take on the Kamiakin Braves in a cross-town battle with playoff implications.
Thanks to Hanford's win over Southridge, Friday's game got a whole lot more interesting. Now Kennewick can fight for its playoff life, while trying to steal the conference crown from Kamiakin. This cross-town rivalry game continues to matter more than the rest.
"The last 10 years there have been some really good battles between the two schools, in the playoffs, for playoff berths, double OT games, you name it. Two programs that work real hard and this will be fun to be a part of," Kennewick head coach Bill Templeton said.
"Just enjoy the moment right now. Basically in a year or two they're going to stop playing football. Some of them may have the opportunity to play in college, but not everybody is going to have the opportunity to keep playing football. For them to be playing for a league title with their buddies that they've grown up with all their lives, we just try to tell them to enjoy what they are doing right now," Kamiakin head coach Scott Biglin added.
