SEATTLE, Wash. - The campaign to legalize, regulate, and tax marijuana in the state of Washington has raised over $6 million. The campaign raised more than $500,000 in the second half of this month alone.
Initiative 502 would set up a state-licensed system for growing and selling marijuana to people over 21.
Financial analysts estimate it could bring the state hundreds of millions of dollars a year in new tax revenue.
It could also put the state in a battle with the federal government on whether or not states have the right to go against the federal prohibition on marijuana.
