OLYMPIA, Wash. - Drivers can begin putting studded tires back on their vehicles. The tires are legal again on Washington state highways starting November 1st. Studded tires are allowed through March 31st.
The Transportation Department also wants to remind drivers of big trucks to carry chains in case they need to chain up while crossing mountain passes. The department said state troopers will have a chain emphasis patrol in early November to make sure trucks heavier than 10,000lbs are carrying chains.
Any truck driver who fails to have chains will face a $500 penalty.
