SAWYER, Wash.-- Yakima County Fire District Five now has a new station in the lower valley.
The new "Sawyer Station Seven" will replace two older buildings in Buena and Sawyer.
The project cost about $900,000. The fire district says they combined the stations to help save taxpayers money.
Both buildings were more than 50 years old and lacked many modern amenities.
"In one of the stations we have, the water that was in there... The guys couldn't even drink it. It was non-potable water. So again, they were our two oldest stations, it was time to replace them," said Fire District 5 Chief Brian Vogel.
The chief says the new station will keep all the firefighters from the previous buildings. The district is hoping to get a grant to set up a training center on the property as well.
