WALLA WALLA, Wash. - Walla Walla police said they got a call about a beeping noise coming from a tree in the front yard of a home on the 500 block of Bryant Avenue about 1:30 this afternoon.
An officer found a six inch piece of pipe, threaded on both ends, attached by a wire to a battery powered beeper.
The Washington State Patrol Bomb Squad responded from the Tri-Cities to investigate.
The team destroyed the device with a pressure cannon. Bryant Avenue was closed to all traffic from Howard to Division Streets until shortly after 5:00 p.m.
Police said the suspicious item resembled a pipe bomb but was found to be just a piece of pipe, connected to what appeared to be parts from a household smoke detector.
