
The Coeur d'Alene Vikings dreams of becoming the first school to win three straight 5A state championship fell just a touchdown short. The Vikings fell to the Madison Bobcats 37-30 out in Pocatello, ID.
Turnovers proved costly for Coeur d'Alene as two Gunnar Amos interceptions led to two touchdowns for the Bobcats.
The Vikings trailed 30-14 in the 4th quarter, but that's when the CDA offense awoke, going on a 10-0 run to cut the lead to seven. Madison answered right back though with a 41 yard touchdown run to basically seal the win.
Coeur d'Alene scored a touchdown late to cut the lead to seven, but failed to recover the onside kick.
Gunnar Amos finished with 300 yards passing for a touchdown and two interceptions. Mahaffey added 149 yards on the ground.
In the Idaho state championship for 1A Kamiah took down Butte County 30-20. Tommy Kern and Eric Hill both scored touchdowns for the Kubs, with Hill's touchdown putting his team up for good.
In Washington 2B/1B state quarterfinals Cusick's Derrick Bluff scored the game-winning touchdown as time expired to give the Panthers the 44-38 win over Touchet.
The other quarterfinal game was between Liberty Christian and Lacrosse-Washtucna/Kahlotus and it was completed dictated by the Patriots. The Pats won big 70-8 and will play Cusick in the state semifinals.
