HERMISTON, Ore. - Hermiston Police made two arrests over the weekend after a rash of graffiti taggings.
Police say 18-year-old Jose Garcia and another 15-year-old vandalized several places around Hermiston, and now face multiple charges.
Despite the activity this weekend, Hermiston's Police Chief said tagging has significantly dropped because of the City's push to charge parents with failure to supervise their children.
"It's just a violations charge but it at least sends a message to the parents that we are serious about graffiti, the city is serious about graffiti, hopefully some of that has lead to a drop in the numbers," he said.
In 2010, there were 74 tagging incidents. In 2011, there were 72. And so far this year, they've only had 40.
