Quincy tests system to locate source of gunfire

Posted: Updated:

QUINCY, Wash.,  - Quincy police say they're the first in the Northwest to test a system that detects and locates gunshots.

The city council approved a one-year $130,000 contract to use the ShotSpotter Flex system for a year.  Officials are concerned about gang violence and hope it improves police response.

The system uses sensors to pick up the sound of a gunshot.  Computers triangulate the location within a minute and give police a location within 15 feet of where a shot was fired.
