YAKIMA, Wash.-- A former Yakima police employee accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the department appeared in court Tuesday to face first degree theft charges.
Frances Nettleton, 60, turned herself in to police and admitted to stealing from the department since November 2009.
Police say she stole about $5,500 but they're hoping they'll get that money back.
"I mean it's the taxpayers money, so there should be certainly a requirement that that money is put back in the appropriate funds, where it belongs," Capt. Rod Light with YPD.
Light says Nettleton worked for the department for more than 15 years.
For now, she has been released on her own recognizance. Her trial is set to begin in February.
