Sunnyside, WASH.--A single mother and her three daughters now have a place to call home, just in time for the holidays.
Maria Ramos works hard to support her family, but as a single mother she said it's hard to afford quality housing.
She gets emotional when she speaks about her father, the man who helped get her where she is today.
"As a single mom, he saw my struggles and jumping from one place to another," said Ramos. "Not a stable place for my kids."
Ramos said her father encouraged her to apply for housing through Habitat For Humanity. He wanted to see her have a safe place she could call her own.
"I'm even nervous because that stability, I hadn't seen it since I came out of my parents home," said Ramos.
"Mrs. Ramos is just really dedicated to making a great place for her kids to grow up, and Habitat's really about investing in children," said Steve Luten, the Executive Director of the Yakima Chapter of Habitat For Humanity. "Children who grow up in a good stable house."
Luten said the need in the community has stayed pretty consistent, but at the same time, much more dramatic.
"The two houses we're working on building right now are for families who are living in garages so that kind of need is very prevalent," said Luten.
Ramos just told her kids that they could officially move in, and their reactions were priceless. They wasted no time before claiming their new rooms.
The Yakima Valley Partners Habitat For Humanity has dedicated almost 150 homes in the past 28 years.
They're in the process of building two more right now, one in Yakima and the other in Toppenish.
