YAKIMA, Wash.-- Yakima's city council is considering taking further steps to improve the downtown area.
They hope to start work on a development plan that will guide them as they design the city in the future.
That includes improvements to the streets and looking at the ideal mix of stores that would help the downtown area.
The council also hopes to attract new types of retailers.
"Yakima is really underserved as far as higher end retail businesses. We lose a lot of business to Bellevue and Seattle," said Councilman Rick Ensey.
Work on the plan is expected to start next year. The council plans to bring together business leaders as well as consultants to hammer out the details.
