YAKIMA, Wash.-- Some tense moments this morning at Davis High School, after smoke was detected in the building.
Firefighters responded about eight this morning and evacuated the students out of the building. Several students noticed heavy smoke coming out of one of the classrooms.
Fire crews say a motor in one of the school's heating systems seized up, burning the belt.
"In a heating system like that, the fan motors they run a blower with a belt and occasionally it happens. (Whether it's) new or old it just happens sometimes," said Yakima Fire Battalion Chief Tom Sevigny.
Students returned to their classrooms about 30 minutes later. Firefighters remained on the scene for another half hour to pump the smoke out of the room.
