WHITE PASS, Wash. - Managers at White Pass Ski Area said they saw a very busy first weekend on the mountain.
In fact, their opening weekend attendance numbers are about 15 percent higher than what they saw last year.
The area typically opens for the season around Thanksgiving. However this year, skiers and snowboarders had to wait a few extra weeks.
White Pass says that pent-up anticipation, and the fact that 90 percent of the runs were open this weekend, likely boosted their attendance numbers.
"We know people were anxious to get to the mountain since they did have to wait a bit this year, so we're certainly encouraged," said Kathleen Goyette with White Pass Ski Area.
They expect those numbers to jump even more after Christmas.
They anticipate their visitorship for the rest of the season will be about the same as last year.
Another Washington ski area, Ski Bluewood, will finally open this Friday.
