Man acquitted of murder by reason of insanity

KENNEWICK, Wash.- A Benton County judge has acquitted a man of first degree murder by reason of insanity.

Superior Court Judge Bruce Spanner ruled Thursday Adam Williams, 29, was insane at the time he killed his elderly grandmother in her Kennewick home.

Benton County Prosecutor Andy Miller says Williams will most likely spend the rest of his life at Eastern State Hospital.

"When Kennewick Police first called me they told me this guy was insane, this is never going to go to trial," Miler says. "And the multiple evaluations at Eastern State Hospital have all led to that conclusion."

Miller says the family of Viola Williams is satisfied that Williams will stay out of prison, but will no longer be a danger to the community.
