Terrace Heights, WASH.-- A local medical school will welcome hundreds of new students and faculty members next year.
Pacific Northwest University plans to increase their class size from 70 students to 135, bringing their total enrollment to a little over 500 students.
The PNWU Dean of Osteopathic Medicine, Robyn Phillips-Madson, said application numbers have been growing every year. In fact, their application numbers this year are almost 20 percent higher than last year.
"Now, we're going to have more students available to graduate as physicians, go through training and then go back to those underserved areas in the northwest," said Madson.
The University is expanding their auditorium to create more space and will recruit more faculty.
Madson said 80 percent of the University's students come from the northwest and tend to stay in the area to practice medicine.
