KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Working on holidays is nothing new for our first responders. Kennewick Fire Department, station #2 was staffed with a full crew of six.
They work 24 hour shifts that began at 8:00 am. The day began with new equipment training and responding to several accidents as well.
"We have to be available for calls throughout the city, so everybody is ready to go. we run a full shift and we only allow five people off so they are the few people that are fortunate enough to get off today," said Captain Nathan Rabe, who said he has worked about 15 Christmas in his 30 years with the Fire Department.
The good news, Winco sent over a sandwich tray, and those working will make a home-made spaghetti dinner.
