PENDLETON, Ore. - Police are continuing to investigate the deadly bus crash on Sunday that left nine dead near Pendleton.
The crash happened along the west end of the Blue Mountains about 13 miles east of Pendleton on Interstate 84 near a treacherous section of road known as Deadman Pass.
Tow crews had a tough time getting to the wreckage of the bus to get it back up the embankment today.
The exact crash site is west of Deadman Pass, an area so dangerous the State Transportation Department published specific warnings for truck drivers.
The state advises the area has "some of the most changeable and severe weather conditions in the northwest" and is notorious for slick conditions and poor visibility.
"It's a little steeper and a little longer then some of the other passes, some of these guys just drive too fast, you know what I mean. You just gotta slow down and stuff, you know. It's pretty dangerous on these roads," said Truck Driver Richard Bailey.
Authorities say it may be a month or more before investigators and prosecutors decide whether to file charges in the crash.
