Kennewick Police Say Robbery Victim Fabricated Crime

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Kennewick Police say the Cinnabon employee reportedly robbed of her deposit bag by an unknown suspect with a handgun last Friday at the Columbia Center Mall, had fabricated the robbery.

31-year-old Mirella Lorena Garza of Pasco admitted to the theft and was booked in the Benton County Jail for 2nd degree theft.

Garza had initially reported a man had assaulted her non-public hallway behind the store, then secured her hands with zip ties before taking off with her deposits. However, during the investigation, KPD detectives determined the theft was actually perpetrated by Garza.

The case is still under investigation. Kennewick Police say they will be serving search warrants at Garza's Pasco home.
