PASCO, Wash. If your
kids are cooped up inside and getting tired of winter, they may want to warm up
with a cool book.
The Regional Service
Corps-AmeriCorps this week is holding afternoon reading activities at the
Mid-Columbia Libraries branches.
Corp member Valery Tolle
says children of all ages can play games and take part in arts and crafts all
aimed at inspiring them to read.
"Having fun is important to inspire kids to read. If
you're having fun and you're enjoying reading your book, your kid is going to
pick up on that, too," Tolle says. "That's what we hope to do here through our
winter reading program. Have fun, celebrate, play games and activities and do
crafts, and they're all related to the books we're going to be reading."
Sessions are scheduled between
12:30-2:15 p.m. and 2:30-4:15 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at branches
in Kennewick, Pasco and Benton city, as well as the Richland public library.
