City Council Votes Tomorrow on Taking Full Control of Airport

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash.-- The Yakima City Council will vote tomorrow night on whether they want to take full ownership of the airport.

Right now, ownership is split between the city and the county, but the county wants out.

Yakima Mayor Micah Cawley said if the council decides to take on the airport they'll have more risks and liabilities to worry about. However, with only the city in charge, decisions could happen faster.

"Having it under the city of Yakima's leadership, you'll be able to work directly with the manager and the council on getting issues taken care of that need to be taken care of," said Cawley.

Cawley also said the city sees a bright future for the airport, despite the loss of Seaport Airlines last year.

They hope to attract new airlines and businesses to the area. The city council meets tomorrow night at six pm in city hall.
