YAKIMA, Wash. - The aerospace industry has seen a drop in the number of workers over the past five years, which is a big reason why the Aerospace Joint Apprenticeship Committee is activating a new program in Yakima County.
Students at Yakima Valley Community College can now work with GE Aviation equipment and learn aircraft mechanics and precision metal fabrication.
"Now we're offering another type of training and specifically in aerospace, which is a vital program to the state of Washington because we have Boeing here," said Angel Reyna, the Workforce Education Director.
AJAC has apprenticeship programs with other colleges in the state including schools in Franklin, King and Snohomish counties.
