KENNEWICK, Wash. - The Benton Franklin Health District says the flu is starting to show up at area hospitals and emergency rooms.
Dr. Amy Person says this particular strain is especially dangerous for the elderly.
She says people are really responding this flu season and the health district in Kennewick administered more than 300 flu shots just last week.
Person says many local pharmacies are running short on flu shots but the health department is well stocked.
"Flu season has not yet peaked in our area, so I think there's still time. This year's strain of flu virus is well matched to what's in the shot. it's a strain that's been associated with more severe disease," said Dr. Person.
She says they are taking appointments right now. Shots are covered by certain insurance companies and are typically priced around $30.
