HERMISTON, Wash. - From the steps of the Hermiston City Hall Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr's "I have a dream" speech rang through the streets in the Hermiston Black International Awareness Club's Annual MLK Peacewalk.
The City of Hermiston Mayor, David Drotzmann, delivered his speech localizing the words spoken by Dr. King almost a half century ago.
"In the fight against discrimination and the fight for civil rights maybe we can accomplish a lot of things as a nation. So, I try to keep things you know on a local perspective not too global and just each of us taking our own responsibility for ourselves and our actions....and if we can each individually do that, what a great country to live in," he said during his speech.
Mayor Drotzmann says he is excited to continue this and other local commitments to equality to make Hermiston an inclusive community.
