OREGON - Oregon State Police say the number of traffic deaths and DUI arrests over the weekend of the Super Bowl are down from last year.
According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, the number of traffic deaths dropped from 3 in 2012, to only 2 this past weekend. Both accidents are currently under investigation by OSP on the suspicion of drugs or alcohol being involved.
DUI arrests are down too, from 38 reported in 2012, to 31 this past weekend.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Super Bowl Sunday has become one of the nation's most dangerous days on the road due to impaired driving; with 48% of fatalities nationwide on Super Bowl Sunday involving a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) over the legal limit (.08).
Since 2007, OSP troopers have arrested over 300 DUI drivers during Super Bowl weekends.
