COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Major spending cuts are set to kick in on Friday, slashing billions of dollars from government programs across the entire country. In Idaho, thousands of dollars will be taken away from the National Parks budget.
Of the 398 National Parks, the Idaho Panhandle National Forest is on the list.
Officials anticipate a 5% cut across the board if our politicians in Washington don't come to a deal. Despite that, no layoffs or furlough's are expected for the full time employees. But cuts would likely come with fewer seasonal employees.
If we do hit sequestration, officials with the Panhandle National Forest are concerned that less staffing would mean less upkeep of some of the grounds.
The sequester will gradually take effect Friday, March 1st.
